In case you lose your mobile phone, or it gets stolen, here is a useful tip.

To Prevent the new "owners" of your mobile phone from using it (and therefore, from selling it on) check what your mobile’s serial number is. Then, if it does get lost/stolen, you can call your service provider and give them the code so that they can block your handset. This will render it useless.

To find out what your unique 15 digit code is, key in *#06# and it will appear on screen. Be sure to write it down and keep it safe, should you need it.

This probably won’t mean that you get your mobile back, but at least it will stop whoever has it from using or profiting from it.

If everyone did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones.

In addition, be sure to use the security features on your mobile. It is surprising how many people don’t use a pin-code to access their mobiles. It does not cost any extra, and could prevent thieves from being able to use your phone. Also, be sure not to use your mobile just outside tube stations and around other risky areas where potential thieves may lurk.
